School Groups of all ages are invited to explore the Museum with Hirshhorn Educators and Teaching Artists!
Our programs range from 45-minute thematic tours for grades K – 12 to extended workshops in the ARTLAB digital media studio for teens. Descriptions of our most popular tours are listed below, but we’d be happy to work with you to create a custom tour that aligns with a particular lesson or the specific interests of your students.
School Tours: Grades K – 12
Museum tours are interactive lessons that encourage students to observe, consider and interpret works of art from the Hirshhorn Collection and Special Exhibitions. All tours are designed as interactive lessons with age-appropriate activities including discussion, teamwork and sketching.
School Workshops: Grades 6 – 12
Museum Workshops are three hour and a half hour sessions led by Hirshhorn Teaching Artists that encourage students to use works from the Hirshhorn Collection as inspiration for their own digital media creations. ARTLAB+ opens to all students at 3pm, so programs must take place between 10:00am – 2:00pm. All workshops include a lunch break for students.
Join the Hirshhorn ARTWORKS team as we utilize the Museum’s Collection, Exhibitions, and Digital Media Resources to explore ideas for creative project based learning in the classroom.
