Digital Learning Programs Summer Internship

The Hirshhorn offers an afterschool program, workshops and production teams for DC-area youth as part of our Digital Learning Programs.  Eligible students should be enrolled in a college-level digital media, museum education, or studio art program. Experience with Apple iLife and Adobe Creative Suite is suggested; the ability to troubleshoot technology is required. We offer both academic year and summer internships.

About the Hirshhorn’s Digital Learning Programs
The Digital Learning Programs constitute a Museum-wide initiative that teaches DC-area youth, ages 13 to 19, to use technology to create projects inspired by Hirshhorn exhibitions. In addition to the Art Lab, which provides a physical base for the DLP, there is an online social network that enables teens to share work and ideas when they are away from the Museum. There is also a half-day drop-in technology center open to teens so they can hang out, meet friends, and experiment with technology. During this time, teen production teams meet to initiate group projects. For more information, please see the ARTLAB+ website: http://artlabplus.si.edu/

Intern Responsibilities
The Digital Learning Programs intern will primarily provide staff educators with logistical support and teen participants with on-site and online mentoring, guiding teens through Museum galleries, supporting production teams and supporting one-on-one technology mentoring in the afterschool space. During the summer, the five-day workshops can be strenuous, involving activities both inside the Art Lab and outside on the National Mall. After each workshop the intern will help facilitate the digital drop-in program.
