Filming Policy and Rights and Reproductions FAQs

If I am a member of the media/press can I obtain special permission to film or photograph at the Hirshhorn?

Yes. Media may request access to photograph or film special exhibitions, collection galleries, and the Sculpture Garden or building. Most film and photo shoots require supervision from a registrar and may also sometimes require permission from the director of communications, director of collections management, chief curator, and head registrar. All press inquiries should be directed to Gabriel Riera, Director of Communications and Marketing, at rierag@si.edu. Please visit our press room for further information and updated press releases.

If I am a member of the public, can I obtain images for non-press related purposes?

The public can request images for non-press related purposes by contacting Amy Giarmo in the photography department at giarmoa@si.edu. Processing, reproduction, and image rights fees may be required.

How can I obtain rights to reproduce an image in the Hirshhorn’s collection for non-press related purposes like a catalogue or book?

Rights and reproductions of Hirshhorn images can be obtained by submitting a request in writing to Amy Giarmo in the photography department at giarmoa@si.edu. Processing, reproduction, and image rights fees may be required.
