Resources for Independent Learning

The Museum provides a range of options for self-directed learning by the public.

Hirshhorn Podcasts are a continuous source of information on art and artists featured at the Museum. Discussions with artists, interviews with curators, archives of talks and lectures, and visitor responses to the art on view are available for download at hirshhorn.si.edu and Apple iTunes. We estimate 15,500 downloads per month.

Meet at the Information Desk
Trained volunteers lead visitors through the Museum on tours focused on the Hirshhorn’s history and collection or its exciting special exhibitions. These hour-long tours combine information and discussion to provoke a deeper understanding of the works and artists presented at the Museum. For times call 202.633.1000 or ask at the Hirshhorn’s Information Desk.

School and Group Tours

Students and community groups can schedule docent-led tours of the permanent collection, special exhibitions, and the Sculpture Garden. With advance notice, docent educators can also tailor their tours to a classroom’s curriculum. To book a tour, call 202-633-EDUC (202-633-3382).
