Contemporary art demands a more active viewer. The Hirshhorn is responding by creating exciting, informal programming that engages visitors one-on-one in the galleries. With a question mark on their badge, emerging arts professionals are available throughout the galleries to discuss special exhibitions. These Interpretive Guides foster an open dialogue that encourages visitors to relate the works to their own experience and to interpret the art themselves.
10:30 am to noon: Group tours scheduled in advance meet at the Information Desk. To schedule a tour, please fill out this form at least one month in advance.
Noon to 4 pm: At the Information Desk, Docents will help you plan your visit and are available to lead you on impromptu 30-minute tours. Interpretive Guides also roam the galleries to answer questions and discuss exhibitions. Click here to listen to a discussion with an Interpretive Guide.
12:30: Drop by the Hirshhorn during your lunch break for half-hour gallery talks. Monday – Thursday, Hirshhorn docents lead tours of special exhibitions. On Friday, Hirshhorn staff, local artists, scholars and people from a variety of fields share their insights and initiate dialog about works currently on view. All tours meet at the Information Desk in the lobby.
